A portrait of a lady, knitting at a table by artist Edmund Bristow (1787-1876), an English animal, still life and subject painter. Oil on panel. Circa 1830.

Bristow exhibited several works at the Royal Academy between 1809 & 1829. This particular piece, features a lady (possibly named Sarah Clode), sitting at a table in front of the fireplace, with knitting material. She wears a traditional oversized dress, with bonnet and ruff, typical of the pre-victorian era. 

Signed 'E Bristow' along bottom edge, underneath subjects. Set in decorative, carved wooden frame.
