An exquisite Dutch Armada Chest, with intricate paintwork, circa 1580-1600.

This imposing wrought iron strongbox (Armada Chest) features original painted Dutch flowers and greenery on the front, sides and lid, much of which has remained in tact, despite the age of the piece.

The box was once housed at the prestigious Broom Park in the early 20th Century as part of Lord Kitchener's private collection, adding to the piece's provenance and special nature of this particular chest.

The strongbox features a working locking mechanism in the lid, and is adorned by a removable engraved steel grate (likely a Georgian addition). At the front, a decorative central dummy lock is flanked by two hasps, and the chest is sat upon a newly made display stand. (Included in sale).
